Heltorf Castle, Noble residence in Angermund, Germany.
Heltorf Castle is a noble residence combining baroque fortifications with rectangular towers and a neoclassical manor house overlooking the landscape. The grounds feature an English-style park along the Rhine, including a neo-romanesque chapel and a neo-gothic library from the mid-1800s.
First documented in 11th century records as a country estate, the property came under the control of the Counts of Spee in 1662. The family transformed the site over several generations, blending baroque and neoclassical styles into the structures we see today.
The Garden Hall displays an extensive cycle of murals depicting historical rulers, created by prominent painters from the Düsseldorf school. These works shape how visitors experience the interior spaces and connect the place to broader artistic traditions.
The estate can be reached at Heltorfer Schlossallee 100 and is best explored on foot through the outdoor areas. The park grounds are open to visitors, though the main manor house itself remains private and off-limits to the public.
Though the manor house remains off-limits, visitors can find a substantial collection of rhododendron plants throughout the garden areas. This botanical concentration makes the park noteworthy, especially in spring when the blooms create striking color contrasts.
