Schifferkirche Ahrenshoop, Lutheran church in Ahrenshoop, Germany
Schifferkirche Ahrenshoop is a wooden church with a thatched roof and seven hinged roof trusses that create pointed arches inside. The structure gives the space a distinctive look that blends simple construction with a Gothic-inspired feel.
The church was designed and built between 1949 and 1951 by architect Hardt-Waltherr Hämer in the years right after World War II ended. It was constructed using materials gathered from the surrounding area and donations from the community.
Inside, four ship models represent Faith, Love, Hope, and Peace, handcrafted by local captain Heinrich Voss in the 1950s to connect the community to its maritime heritage. These works show how fishing and seafaring traditions shaped the daily life and values of the people here.
The church can be visited during different seasons, with visiting hours that change between summer and winter months. It is helpful to check the current opening times before visiting, as access varies by season.
The baptismal font is a striking work featuring three carved child figures holding a brass bowl, created by local sculptor Doris Oberländer-Seeberg. This sculptural detail shows how the area's artists contributed memorable touches to the interior.
