Weiskirchen transmitter, Radio transmitter in Rodgau, Germany
The Weiskirchen transmitter is a radio broadcasting facility in Rodgau with two steel lattice masts, each standing about 126 meters tall. The masts are equipped with special grounding systems and use coils at their anchor points to reduce high-frequency currents in the supporting wires.
The facility was built in 1967 by Hessischer Rundfunk and initially broadcast at 400 kilowatts of power. In 1994, its broadcast power was reduced to 300 kilowatts.
The facility broadcast news and content for migrant workers across the Hesse region, playing an important role in reaching communities that were otherwise difficult to serve. It was part of a radio network that connected people living in different areas.
The site is best reached via local roads in Rodgau, with the masts visible from a distance. A visit is ideally suited for daytime hours when visibility is clear and you can view the structure from different angles.
The facility featured a diesel generator that automatically activated during power interruptions to maintain broadcasting. This allowed the transmitter to continue operating even when the main power supply failed, ensuring uninterrupted service to listeners.
