Selberg, Mountain summit in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Selberg is a mountain summit in the North Palatine Uplands with an elevation of 546 meters, situated between the Breitenbach and Lauter stream valleys. The area features rolling terrain and several hiking trails suitable for exploring the region.

Excavations in the early 20th century revealed a Roman villa from the 2nd century on the western slope, indicating ancient settlement in the area. These discoveries show that the region had human activity dating back nearly two thousand years.

A wooden observation tower was built at the summit by the Selberg Club in 1914 and later replaced with a steel structure that has eighty steps. This tower remains a familiar landmark for visitors seeking views from the top.

The area is well served by hiking trails, including a section of the Königsland Nordic walking course that connects nearby villages. Wear sturdy footwear and check weather conditions before your visit, as paths vary depending on the season.

A glider airfield operates from the saddle between Königsberg and Selberg, managed by the Eßweiler Aerial Sports Club for regional flight activities. This unusual feature connects the location to aviation history and occasionally attracts flying enthusiasts.
