Kreuzberg, Radio transmitter facility in Rhön Mountains, Germany.
Kreuzberg is a radio transmitter facility in the Rhön Mountains with a 227-meter steel tower positioned at an elevation of about 928 meters. The site broadcasts radio and television signals across the surrounding region to serve local communities.
The facility began operating in 1951 under Bayerischer Rundfunk to bring radio programs to the region. Over the following decades it was expanded and modernized multiple times to keep pace with advancing broadcast technology.
The transmitter stands near Kloster Kreuzberg, where monks have brewed beer for centuries and shaped regional life. Visitors can explore both sites together and experience the connection between religious community and local craftsmanship.
The mast contains an interior staircase with 800 steps that takes about an hour to climb. The facility sits on a mountain plateau that is accessible by road and available to visit year-round.
In 2016, engineers installed a glass fiber reinforced plastic cylinder at the mast top to improve broadcast quality. This upgrade was necessary to meet modern transmission requirements and extend the signal range.
