Stechinelli-Haus

The Stechinelli-Haus is a three-story stone building at Altstadtmarkt in Brunswick with a five-window bay facing the market square. The facade is defined by decorated portals and a thoughtful window design that gives the structure a distinctive presence.

Merchant Francesco Maria Capellini built the structure in 1690 after rising to the position of General Postmaster for the Duke of Celle. His climb to economic and social power found direct expression in the building's ambitious design.

The entrances display symbolic figures like a boy holding a hat representing Stechinelli and a lion marking the construction year. These representations tell the story of the people and events connected to the building.

The building sits centrally on the market square and is easy to spot when walking through Brunswick's old town. The ground floor is accessible for quick exploration, while the external structure is fully visible from the public square.

The facade displays a recurring pattern of rose motifs and hat designs above the windows, subtly suggesting Capellini's connection to his name and trade. This ornamental interplay is characteristic of Baroque architecture of the era, yet brings personal meaning to the decoration.
