St. Laurentius

St. Laurentius is a church building in Mintard with three naves and wooden barrel vaults supported by thick walls. The interior features a baptismal font made of blue Namur stone and received comprehensive restoration at the turn of the century.

The first documented mention dates to 873, making it one of the oldest houses of worship in the Rhineland region. It survived damage from the Thirty Years War and bombing attacks during the Second World War.

The interior displays religious artworks from different periods, and visitors can see how the altars and paintings have shaped worship across generations. These restored pieces tell the story of faith shared by those who prayed here.

The building sits in a quiet part of Mintard and is easy to spot from outside. Visitors should remember it remains an active place of worship, so respectful behavior is expected.

The three bells were restored in 1999 and contribute to the soundscape of the place, though they witnessed destruction and rebuilding. Their ringing connects the present with a long past of community history.
