Theater der Altstadt, Theater company in Stuttgart, Germany
Theater der Altstadt is a venue for contemporary plays, musicals, and experimental productions in Stuttgart's West district. The space seats approximately 187 people and operates from a fixed location on Rotebühlstraße.
The theater was founded in 1958 and initially operated from a temporary wooden structure. A fire in 1969 prompted a move to the current location on Rotebühlstraße.
The venue serves as a gathering place where contemporary and classical works coexist on the same stages throughout the year. Visitors come to experience a mix of storytelling approaches that reflect both traditional theater and newer creative experiments.
The venue is within walking distance of Feuersee S-Bahn station, making it convenient to reach by public transit. The compact size of the theater means it creates an intimate setting for performances.
A bronze bust of philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer has decorated the building's front since 1999. This sculpture is a distinctive visual marker that gives the place its recognizable character.
