Viktorshöhe, Mountain summit in Gernrode, Germany.
Viktorshöhe is a mountain summit in the Ramberg massif of the Harz range in Saxony-Anhalt, reaching around 582 meters. Several walking paths cross the peak, and a few dining facilities are available near the top.
Prince Victor Frederick had a hunting lodge built on the mountain in 1750, along with a small well house and a lookout tower. Over the following century, the area gradually opened to the public and became a destination for day visitors.
The mountain's name comes from Prince Victor Frederick, who used this land as a private hunting ground in the 1700s. Today walkers stop at the summit restaurants to eat and rest after the climb.
The summit can be reached by several walking paths of varying length, so it is worth choosing a route that matches your level. Trail conditions can change a lot depending on the season, and sturdy footwear is a good idea year-round.
Scattered across the summit are remnants of a holiday complex built in the 1970s, including abandoned buildings with furniture still inside. These leftovers show how the mountain was used as a tourist destination during the East German period.
