Erichsburg

Erichsburg is a castle ruin in the Harz Mountains near Quedlinburg with preserved stone walls and foundations on elevated ground. The site is surrounded by forest and the remains show portions of the original defensive structures.

The castle was built between 1100 and 1200 and served to protect important trade routes in the region. It was destroyed in 1346 during a siege by Margrave Frederick.

The ruins show traces from different medieval periods and reveal how building methods changed over time. Walking through the site, you can see these different construction phases in the stone and structure.

The site is reached through marked hiking trails that connect to the road network of Quedlinburg. It is advisable to wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven terrain.

The castle operated for over 200 years and its remains show how fortifications were strengthened during the medieval period. Visitors can read in the stones and walls how defensive techniques evolved during this time.
