Wahlen

Wahlen is a designated district in the Odenwald region of southern Hesse, situated in gently rolling terrain. The settlement spreads across a rural landscape characterized by forests and fields that define the local terrain.

The settlement was first documented in 1359 under the name Waldau and featured a water castle at its southwestern edge. This castle likely dated to the 12th or 13th century and shaped the area's character for centuries.

The population experienced significant changes during the Reformation period, when the majority of residents converted to the Evangelical faith.

The village is served by local buses that connect to railway stations in nearby Heppenheim and Weinheim. These connections are part of the regional transport system and make it easy to arrive from outside the area.

An old railway line called the Überwaldbahn ran from 1901 until 1983 and terminated at this location. Though the tracks have since been removed, the history of this rail connection remains part of the local story.
