Weilheimer Hütte, Mountain hut in Estergebirge, Germany.
Weilheimer Hütte is a mountain shelter in the Estergebirge at about 1955 meters elevation and serves as the highest refuge in this area. The building provides lodging and meals for hikers and climbers traveling through this part of the Bavarian Prealps.
The first building was constructed in 1883 but was destroyed by heavy snow, leading to a new shelter built in 1884 with improved structural design. This second hut remains standing today and has been updated several times to better serve visitors.
The hut sources food from regional producers in the surrounding area and emphasizes local ingredients from nearby farms. Visitors can taste how traditional mountain cooking reflects what grows and is produced locally.
To reach the shelter, follow marked trails from the village of Eschenlohe on a route that takes about 5 hours. The path goes through forested areas and steep terrain, so sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water are important.
From this location, hikers can reach four neighboring peaks including Krottenkopf and Hoher Fricken, each less than an hour and a half away on foot. This proximity to multiple summits makes the spot a hub for mountain expeditions in the area.
