Klaffen, Alpine summit in Wallgau, Germany
Klaffen is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Pre-Alps that reaches 1829 meters in elevation and stands east of the Krottenkopf peak. Multiple hiking trails wind their way to the top, passing through varying terrain and vegetation zones along the ascent.
Early Bavarian mountaineers explored this peak and established the first marked paths through the Estergebirge range as Alpine activity grew. These original routes continue to shape the hiking experience in the region today.
Local mountain guides regularly conduct educational sessions about Alpine flora and geological formations found on Klaffen's slopes throughout climbing seasons.
The hiking trails are best accessed from May through October, and proper equipment helps on the steeper sections near the summit. Visitors should plan for adequate rest stops and be prepared for conditions at higher elevations.
The summit offers expansive views of the surrounding mountain landscape while attracting fewer visitors than nearby peaks. This makes it possible for hikers to enjoy a quieter experience without large crowds.
