Wasserschloss Bad Rappenau

Wasserschloss Bad Rappenau is a Renaissance castle standing on an artificial island surrounded by a moat with typical architectural features of the early 1600s. The structure features thick walls, several towers, and a characteristic courtyard that separates the residential area from the outer fortifications.

The castle was built in 1601 by Eberhard von Gemmingen and replaced an older fortress on the same site. The water defense system remained functional for centuries and was an important protection element throughout much of its history.

The castle serves as a venue for art exhibitions where visitors can discover works by various artists. Its rooms are used regularly for cultural events and presentations.

Visitors can explore the castle through guided tours that provide access to the interior spaces and their history. The main entrance is located at Hinter dem Schloss 17, and the site is easily accessible for a half-day visit.

During a comprehensive restoration in the 1990s, workers discovered significant amounts of old debris embedded in the structure from centuries past. This intensive renovation work brought the building back to life and enabled its use as a cultural venue.
