Wasserturm Flensburg-Mürwik, Water tower in Volkspark, Flensburg, Germany.
The Wasserturm Flensburg-Mürwik is a concrete and iron structure from the post-war era that rises 37.5 meters and stores water for the city. A walkable platform at roughly 26 meters height circles the storage tank and offers views across the surroundings.
Architect Fritz Trautwein designed it in 1961 to meet the growing demand from the city's eastern districts after World War II. The structure was built during Flensburg's post-war reconstruction and expansion period.
The tower displays Art Nouveau features that merge industrial function with architectural beauty. Visitors can see how practical structures from this era looked and fit into the urban landscape.
The viewing platform is open on select weekdays and requires climbing stairs to reach it. Wear sturdy shoes and avoid the climb during bad weather or thunderstorms.
From the platform, visitors see three church towers, shipyard cranes, and on clear days the Danish border. The circular view extends to the gentle hills of the Angeln region, making this an unexpected vantage point.
