The Merkur Observation Tower is a 63-meter steel and concrete structure located on Merkur Mountain near Baden-Baden with multiple viewing platforms. The tower offers visitors different heights from which to observe the Black Forest region.
The tower began operating in 1950 as a transmission facility for FM radio and television serving the Baden-Baden region. Significant modernization work took place between 1980 and 1982 when an elevator was installed to access the viewing platforms.
The tower stands as a recognizable landmark in Baden-Baden and serves as a viewpoint where visitors gather to take in panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
An elevator provides convenient access directly to the viewing platform, making the ascent quick and easy. Visiting on clear days offers the best views of the surrounding Black Forest landscape.
The tower was designed to serve both as broadcast infrastructure and public viewpoint, a dual purpose that continues today. The antenna masts on top remain operational for regional transmissions while supporting tourist visits.
