Zion's Church

Zion's Church sits on Weyerberg hill and is a Lutheran place of worship with brick walls, a baroque spire, and a Rococo interior featuring a barrel-vaulted ceiling. The space is defined by a modern organ installed by builder Hendrik Ahrend in 2012.

The building was constructed between 1757 and 1759 according to architect Johann Paul Heumann's plans under the direction of moor commissioner Jürgen Christian Findorff. This dates it to a period of regional development in the 18th century.

Artists from the Worpswede community, such as Clara Westhoff, created decorative elements inside that reflect the church's connection to the local art movement. These handcrafted details show how creativity and faith were woven together in this place.

Regular Protestant services take place here, and visitors are generally welcome to attend or look around. Check opening times in advance since the building may close between services.

The cemetery surrounding the building holds graves of artists from the Worpswede colony, including expressionist painter Paula Modersohn-Becker. This spot where faith and artistic legacy meet offers a quiet place to reflect on both histories.
