Arthur, Inverted roller coaster in Rust, Germany
Arthur is a steel coaster featuring approximately 550 meters of track that connects indoor and outdoor sections. Passengers sit in suspended vehicles that travel through elaborately themed environments with multiple scenes and special effects throughout the ride.
Announced in November 2012 alongside the IAAPA trade show in Orlando, Arthur was built on land reserved for an indoor attraction since 2000. Construction began in early 2013; a soft opening ran from 18 June 2014, and the ride officially opened on 30 July 2014. Its ride system won a Thea Award in Anaheim on 23 April 2017.
The coaster draws from Luc Besson's Arthur film series, presenting scenes and designs from the Minimoys world. As you ride, you encounter environments and props that bring this fictional universe to life.
Visitors must be at least 100 centimeters tall to ride this coaster. The ride has good capacity, so wait times are usually manageable.
The ride system was nominated for a Thea Award, which it won on 23 April 2017 in Anaheim; according to the Themed Entertainment Association, the jury was convinced by the combination of an inverted powered coaster with a dark ride, 360-degree rotations, variable speed and on-board sound.
