Schloss- und Pfarrkirche St. Mariä Himmelfahrt

The neoclassical central building features a Greek cross floor plan with high barrel vaults, strict pillars, and tall clear-glass windows in the transept.

Duke Ferdinand and Duchess Julie commissioned the church construction between 1827 and 1832, marking a notable Catholic presence in Protestant-dominated Köthen.

The church houses numerous art pieces, including a replica of Raphael's Madonna of Foligno, given by Pope Leo XII, and thermal windows created by Michael Triegel.

The church opens Monday through Saturday from 8:00 to 18:00 and Sundays from 9:00 to 18:00, with street parking available near the Stiftstraße entrance.

The bell tower contains six bells, with the oldest dating from 1829, each bearing distinct Latin inscriptions related to religious themes.
