Schloss Schöningen, Medieval castle in Schöningen, Germany.
The stone castle features two square corner towers with hipped roofs flanking the eastern wing of a four-wing structure with thick walls.
Duke Magnus I of Welf established Schloss Schöningen in the first half of the 14th century as a hunting lodge and fortification near Halberstadt.
Three duchesses from Braunschweig, including Elisabeth of Denmark, selected the castle as their residence, influencing its Renaissance architectural development.
The castle complex currently functions with hotel accommodations, a restaurant, and spaces for seminars, making it suitable for various events.
The southern wing contains the former chapel with preserved medieval ribbed vaulting, demonstrating original architectural elements from its construction period.
