Rinken Tower, Observation tower in Baiersbronn, Germany.
Rinken Tower is an observation tower in Baiersbronn built entirely from sandstone and located at the southeastern end of the Rinkenkopf ridge. Standing 16 meters high, it serves as a viewpoint accessible via multiple hiking routes through the northern Black Forest.
The structure was built in 1914 by the Württemberg Black Forest Club and originally named King William Tower in honor of William II of Württemberg. It occupies a site that was fortified as early as 1100.
The tower stands near Rinkenwall, a circular rampart from around 1100 that appears in historical records of Reichenbach Abbey. The site shows how this mountain area was used and valued across different periods.
The tower is reachable via several hiking routes including Murgleiter and Genießerpfad that wind through the Black Forest landscape. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and prepare for changing mountain weather.
The municipality of Baiersbronn acquired the tower in the 1980s and now uses it for telecommunications purposes while keeping it open to the public. This blend of heritage preservation and modern function makes it a place where past and present coexist.
