The Kräuterpark Altenau is a botanical garden in Clausthal-Zellerfeld featuring more than 1,500 herbs and spices arranged across the grounds. Walking paths guide visitors through sections organized by plant type and use, making it easy to explore the collections at your own pace.

Erich Jürgens founded the herb park in 2004 on 4,000 square metres, initially showing about 1,000 herbs and spices and a gallery of some 350 processed herbs. In 2005 it was expanded to 30,000 square metres, and the ten-metre spice pagoda was added in 2007. In 2021 Jens Lutz bought the park, which has operated since then as Kräuter-Erlebnispark Altenau GmbH.

The park's mascot is the Würzel, a cone-shaped figure with a pot of herbs for a head, designed for Altenau's 2005 entry in the "Ab in die Mitte!" competition under the slogan "Altenau, da, wo der Pfeffer wächst". The town was among the prize-winners, and the Würzel figures have served as the town's symbols since, with the slogan taken into its marketing.

The garden is best visited from April through October when the plants are in full growth and bloom. The walking paths are well-maintained and easy to navigate, so you can explore at a comfortable pace without difficulty.

A ten-meter tall pagoda stands in the garden to show how spices traveled to Europe through ancient trade routes and their historical economic importance. Visitors can participate in spice roasting demonstrations and create their own custom blends based on what they learn.
