Hinterhoftheater

Hinterhoftheater was a restaurant and performance venue in Munich's Milbertshofen-Am Hart neighborhood that combined live cabaret shows with regional cuisine. The space functioned as a traditional inn with an attached theater stage.

The venue was founded in 1977 by Günter Knoll and Thomas Brönner as a new space for live performance. It moved to Sudetendeutschestraße in 1980 and operated from that location for more than 25 years.

The venue hosted performances by German-speaking comedians and performers who shaped Munich's entertainment scene. Audiences experienced cabaret shows while enjoying regional food in a relaxed setting.

The venue was accessible by public transport in Munich's northern district and served both as a casual restaurant and event space. Visitors should know it had limited seating capacity, so booking ahead was helpful for ensuring a spot.

Founder Günter Knoll continued the venue's programming concept at other locations in Munich under the name HINTERHOF.kultur after the original space closed. This continuation showed how important the performance format had become to the local scene.
