Betriebshof Charlottenburg, Locomotive depot in Charlottenburg, Germany.
The Betriebshof Charlottenburg is a former tram depot in Berlin with a massive indoor hall designed to hold many tram cars on numerous tracks. Today the complex houses shops and businesses that are open to the public.
The depot opened in 1930 as a replacement for older tram facilities at other Berlin locations. The complex survived World War II with minimal damage, though one section required later rebuilding.
Two large sculptures titled 'Work and Home' by Josef Thorak stand at the entrance, showing a woman with child and a man rendered in the style of 1928. These artworks shape how visitors experience the site's entrance today.
The site is accessible today through shops and businesses located inside the complex, which makes visiting straightforward. You can walk around the buildings and view the depot structure from different angles outside.
The building kept its original rail layout with the characteristic track system still visible inside and around the hall today. This preserved structure helps visitors understand how tram operations worked in the past.
