Menke-Planetarium, Planetarium in Glücksburg, Germany
The Menke-Planetarium sits on a hilltop above the Flensburg Fjord with a modern projection dome and two separate buildings housing 9-meter observation domes for stargazing. The facility blends exhibition spaces with working observatories designed for different types of astronomical viewing.
Founded in 1969 by infrared physicist Josef Ferdinand Menke, the facility was later transferred to Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. Since its opening, it has served as a center for both astronomical research and public education.
The facility serves as an educational center where visitors learn about astronomy through regular presentations, including specialized programs for children every other Tuesday afternoon.
Plan your visit for clear nights when the observatories are open for sky viewing. It helps to check ahead which shows and sessions are running on your preferred date.
The facility includes a connected coelostat, a specialized optical instrument that allows direct solar observations. This equipment makes it one of the few places in the region where systematic sun measurements and observations can be conducted.
