Twedter Feld

Twedter Feld is a nature reserve in Flensburg covering forests, meadows, and wet areas across its landscape. A walking trail circles through most of the reserve, letting visitors observe how the forest and grasslands develop naturally.

The site served as a military training ground during the World Wars before becoming Flensburg's first official nature reserve in 2003. This transition marked a shift from military use to environmental protection.

The reserve draws visitors interested in nature study, offering access to forest ecosystems and grasslands that support local wildlife.

The trail works best during the growing season, especially spring and summer when the landscape is most active. Bring sturdy footwear since wet areas and uneven ground are common throughout the route.

Over 700 fungal species thrive here because dead wood makes up a large part of the forest. This rotting wood feeds many organisms and provides shelter for countless creatures.
