Argonner barracks

Argonner barracks is a military installation in Hanau divided into two main areas, each serving different purposes. The older section houses administrative buildings while the newer part contains medical, dental, and educational facilities.

The barracks was built in 1938 as a training center for military engineers under the German Army. After World War II the United States Army took over and maintained its military operations at this location.

The name comes from the Battle of the Aisne, a French military engagement that left its mark on the collective memory. Today families use the facilities for schooling, medical care, and living together in a close-knit community.

The facility is spacious and clearly laid out, so it helps to familiarize yourself with the site layout before visiting. Be aware that some areas may have restricted access for security reasons.

A large tree grows through an elevated stone wall within the barracks, a remnant from the 19th century. This unusual sight marks the location of a former execution site, standing as a quiet reminder of a darker period.
