Fleetschlösschen, Cultural heritage monument in HafenCity, Germany
Fleetschlösschen stands at the junction of Brooktorkai and St. Annen Bridge, supported by three pillars extending directly over the water channels. This small neogothic structure sits in its unique position above the Fleet waterway and shapes the character of this harbor area.
Before 1869, the location contained St. Annen Chapel, which functioned as a funeral chapel for the nearby cemetery. The current structure emerged when that cemetery was cleared to make way for modern harbor development.
The building displays the neoclassical language common in Hamburg's warehouse district, with stone details and characteristic ornamentation. It represents the architectural style visitors can still see throughout the area today.
The structure houses a restaurant and tea house that opens at midday on weekdays and begins service earlier on weekends. The location is accessible from multiple directions since it sits alongside the water channels and is easily visible.
The structure houses a historical clock rescued from demolition at the former Department of River and Port Construction building. This clock displays the time daily and thus connects the history of old Hamburg with life today.
