Museum im Kleihues-Bau, Contemporary art museum in Kornwestheim, Germany

The Museum im Kleihues-Bau stands on the southeastern corner of Kornwestheim's Marktplatz. Josef Paul Kleihues designed it as a parallelogram with a 7-degree slant plus a semicircle; the two-storey parallelogram forms the main gallery, while the glazed semicircular hall opens onto a garden and terrace. Cannstatter travertine clads the outer walls, and the museum holds roughly 400 m² on the ground floor and 320 m² above.

The Galerie der Stadt Kornwestheim was founded in 1975 without its own collection or building. After the city received a bequest of several hundred works by Manfred Henninger, the council decided in 1987 to build a gallery; Josef Paul Kleihues designed it and it was erected in 1988/89. It opened on 24 November 1989 with an exhibition on Philipp Matthäus Hahn, and in June 2017 it was listed as a cultural monument of Baden-Württemberg.

The museum's name comes from its architect, Josef Paul Kleihues, who designed the 1988/89 building. Its collection grew from a donation of several hundred works from the estate of the Swabian late Impressionist Manfred Henninger (1894–1986), a co-founder of the Stuttgart New Secession in 1929. Around 700 of his works form the core, and since 2009 a support association has helped research this estate.

The museum stands at the south-east corner of Kornwestheim's Marktplatz, in a building clad in Cannstatter travertine. The two exhibition levels are linked by a staircase that narrows towards the top; the lower hall receives daylight through an east-facing slanted glass wall, while shed roofs direct northern light into the upper gallery. The semicircular hall with glazing onto the garden and terrace serves both exhibitions and events.

The building's outer walls are clad in Cannstatter travertine, and the parallelogram-shaped main hall is skewed at exactly 7 degrees. The semicircular gallery hall opens onto a garden and terrace through full-height glazing. In June 2017 the state heritage office listed the building, citing its careful design down to the fittings.
