Treetop path Saarschleife

The Treetop path Saarschleife is an elevated wooden walkway through mixed deciduous forest in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, rising to heights of up to 23 meters above the ground. The route has no steps and is accessible throughout for wheelchairs and strollers.

The project was planned in the early 2010s and opened to visitors in 2016. The idea came from a desire to make the region's natural features accessible in a new way.

The path takes its name from the dramatic river bend visible far below, and several stops along the route explain the local rock formations, forest types, and how water shaped the landscape. These teaching moments help visitors understand the natural world they are walking through.

The path is easy to walk and suits people of all ages since it runs level throughout. An observation tower at the end provides a good spot to rest and take in the surroundings.

The observation tower at the end is intentionally shaped like the river bend below. This architectural detail playfully connects the structure to the natural landscape in an unexpected way.
