Schloss Münchhausen

Schloss Münchhausen is a three-story manor house in Bodenwerder featuring Renaissance-style ornaments and Solling stone roof tiles, with an elongated structure dominating the estate. The building displays typical early modern architectural features and forms the centerpiece of a larger ensemble on the historic Münchhausen property.

The manor was built between 1603 and 1609 by wealthy merchant Statius von Münchhausen and initially served as an administrative center for estate management. Since 1936, it has functioned as the town hall of Bodenwerder, playing a central role in local administration.

The manor was home to Baron Hieronymus von Münchhausen, whose fantastical adventure stories made him famous in the 18th century. The connection to this literary figure shapes the identity of the place today and draws visitors interested in exploring the history behind these extraordinary tales.
