Schloß Neusteußlingen, Medieval castle in Schelklingen, Germany.
Schloss Neusteußlingen is a fortified structure perched on an elevated spur above the Schmiechtal valley, built from stone with features spanning several construction periods. The building combines architectural elements from different eras that reflect its long development over time.
The original Steusslinger fortress underwent partial demolition in 1581 under orders from Duke Ludwig of Württemberg. A new administrative building was subsequently constructed on the same site with a more modern layout.
The castle served as the seat of the Freiherren von Freyberg-Steußlingen family and shaped regional life as an administrative center. Its role as a longstanding noble residence marked its importance to the local population.
The site remains privately owned and visits require advance arrangements made through local authorities. Interested visitors should inquire early and make formal requests well before planning a trip.
Publisher Eugen Nübling purchased the ruins in 1897 and transformed them into a private residence. His renovation work combined elements from both the original fortress and the older fortification system.
