St. Johannes Baptist

St. Johannes Baptist is a Catholic church in Obereschach featuring a massive square tower and Baroque architecture. The interior is defined by large fresco paintings covering walls and ceilings, along with ornately decorated altars.

The current church was built between 1750 and 1754 and incorporates masonry from an earlier church dating to the 12th or 13th century within its tower. This architectural layering shows the site's continuous religious importance across centuries.

The high altar displays a crucifixion scene with Mary Magdalene, while side altars showcase scenes from the lives of Saints Sebastian and John. These artworks from the early 18th century shape the spiritual character of the interior.

A life-size Madonna statue from the 17th century stands on the northern wall of the nave and serves as a visual focal point of the space. This sculpture is less well-known than the altar furnishings and deserves careful attention from visitors.
