Mühlenmuseum Hiesfeld

The Mühlenmuseum Hiesfeld houses a tower windmill built in 1822 and a water mill demonstrating traditional grain grinding and associated techniques. The site also features a small baking house in the mill yard, adding to the historical character of the complex.

The water mill was connected to the Haus Hiesfeld estate and served local farmers from the 14th century onward. Operations stopped in 1924, but the structure was later preserved and converted into a museum.

The collection displays more than 60 dioramas showing different mill types from various regions, revealing how mills looked and operated in earlier times. Through these detailed miniature scenes, visitors can understand the important role mills played in people's daily life.

The museum opens on Sundays between 10:00 and 12:30, while the windmill is accessible on the first Saturday of each month from May through September. Check ahead for special bread-baking events, as these may offer additional viewing opportunities.

The museum regularly hosts traditional bread-baking days where visitors can watch bread being made using historic methods in the old baking house. These special occasions demonstrate how directly mill products connected to people's daily sustenance.
