Schloss Niesen, Schloss im Kreis Höxter
Schloss Niesen is a manor house in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Willebadessen, built in the early 18th century with baroque features. The building displays a symmetrical facade with a central projection and grand staircase, set within expansive grounds featuring mature trees, ponds, and stone bridges.
A medieval fortress once stood at this site, its exact construction date unknown, yet it served a role for centuries. The present manor was built between 1703 and 1704, later altered in the 19th century, while a chapel from 1674 remains the oldest surviving structure on the grounds.
The castle served as a residence for the local nobility and continues to define the region's identity as a place rooted in history. The chapel from 1674 and the symmetrical architecture reflect the status that its inhabitants once displayed.
A visit should be arranged in advance, as the castle has no set opening hours and is primarily used for private events. The park with its mature trees and ponds is visible from the perimeter and offers a pleasant walk through the surrounding area.
A fire severely damaged the manor in 1951, after which it was substantially rebuilt and lost one story. This dramatic alteration transformed the original two-story house into a single-story building, yet it retained its baroque appearance.
