Ratinger Waldsee

Ratinger Waldsee is a protected conservation area in Ratingen comprising a lake, marshy terrain, and the Hummelbach stream that runs along its northern boundary. The site contains multiple habitat zones including forests, meadows, and water bodies spread across the landscape.

The area gained protected status in 1993 to preserve the local natural environment. Additional conservation efforts were undertaken in subsequent decades to safeguard the habitat for wildlife and vegetation.

Nature enthusiasts from Ratingen regularly participate in guided walks to learn about the local flora and fauna within this conservation area.

At the northeastern edge of the site stands an alder swamp forest that provides crucial habitat for uncommon plant species and numerous water birds. These wetland woods are particularly valued for conservation purposes and attract observers keen to spot the wildlife present.
