Anscharpark, Public park in Wik district, Kiel, Germany
Anscharpark is a public green space in the Wik district that combines historic brick structures with mature trees spread across the grounds. The space now functions as a residential area with rental apartments organized around a central pathway.
The park originated as a military hospital complex with about twenty buildings including pavilions and administrative structures until its closure in the late 1990s. After abandonment, the site was transformed into a residential area.
The preserved buildings from the former hospital period are registered as cultural monuments, representing the architectural legacy of Kiel's military medical facilities.
The park is freely accessible for walking between the residential buildings and beneath the mature trees. The infrastructure is well-maintained with clear pathways that make it easy to navigate the grounds.
The former boiler house chimney was repurposed to serve as a habitat for bats that originally sheltered in the hospital's underground tunnels. This creative adaptation protects the animals while preserving a piece of the site's industrial past.
