Vogelsang power station, Industrial ruins in Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany.
Vogelsang power station is an industrial ruin in Eisenhüttenstadt near the Oder River, consisting of massive concrete structures and two 100-meter-high brick chimneys. The site spans a large area with remaining building fragments and open ground where machinery once stood.
Construction of the coal-fired plant began in 1943 but halted in 1945 when the Red Army crossed the frozen Oder River. After the war ended, machinery and equipment were dismantled as reparations and the site was abandoned.
The facility reflects industrial ambitions of the 1940s and represents a frozen moment in time when development suddenly stopped. Walking through it today shows how the landscape has reclaimed what people once built.
You can access the ruins via paths that lead directly to the structures and allow exploration on foot. Keep in mind that safety railings are sparse and terrain is uneven in many spots, so wear suitable footwear and watch your step.
The chimneys are covered with graffiti art, making the ruin a popular spot for street artists and photographers. This constantly changing artwork adds an unexpected creative dimension to the historical site.
