The structure originated in 1503 as a cemetery chapel outside the town before becoming a Catholic church used by the local congregation from 1816.
The church maintains regular Sunday Mass services every three weeks, alternating with neighboring communities of Bad Berka and Kranichfeld.
Located at Große Nonnengasse 1 in Blankenhain, the church received extensive renovations in 1992 and a fresh white paint coating in 2018.
The building underwent transformation from a cemetery chapel to a Catholic church under architect Rudolf Brückner while preserving its historical elements.
