Höllentalbrücke, Footbridge in Frankenwald Nature Park, Germany
The Höllentalbrücke is a footbridge in the Frankenwald region that will cross the Selbitz Valley and link different hiking routes together. The structure will span about 1030 meters and follow a curved path over the valley.
Planning for the footbridge began in 2020 with initial designs for this ambitious project. Completion is scheduled for 2027 and will open new recreational access to the region.
Environmental organizations emphasize the protection of local flora and fauna in the Höllental valley, where the bridge construction generates debates.
Access to the completed bridge will be available from several points, particularly from the Lichtenberg area, where parking and a visitor center are planned. Given its height above the valley, visitors should prepare for exposure to wind and changing weather conditions.
The structure will rank among the world's longest free-spanning pedestrian bridges when complete. Its S-shaped curve follows the river's natural flow, making each crossing a distinctive experience.
