Elisabethsee

Elisabethsee is a body of water in Eickum serving as the centerpiece of a recreational facility with lodging options. The grounds contain tent pitches and chalets alongside a restaurant housed in a converted farmhouse for visitors who wish to stay overnight.

A local farmer created this water in the 1960s by damming a stream and named it after his daughter Elisabeth. The transformation addressed the unsuitability of the original farmland for traditional agriculture.

The lakeside functions as a gathering place where visitors play volleyball, shoot hoops at basketball courts, or participate in petanque matches. These activities shape daily life here and show how the water serves as a hub for casual recreation.

The water maintains good bathing quality and stays relatively shallow, making it safe for family swimmers. Trained lifeguards are present on weekends and during summer holidays to watch over those in the water.

The site attracts swimmers and picnickers, but few realize the entire recreational setup grew together with the lake as a solution to farming difficulties. This blend of natural swimming space and organized leisure center makes it noteworthy.
