Isarphilharmonie, Concert hall in Sendling, Munich, Germany
Isarphilharmonie is a concert hall in Sendling, Munich with a stage measuring 272 square meters and seating for 1800 people inside a modern wooden interior. The restored red brick Hall E building also houses a reading cafe, information desk and ticket counter alongside the main auditorium.
The hall opened in October 2021 as a temporary venue during the renovation of the Gasteig cultural center. The decision to adapt an existing industrial building allowed for rapid completion and provided a solution for Munich's concert scene.
The venue hosts performances by several ensembles while their main hall undergoes renovation elsewhere in the city. Audiences experience concerts in a space where the wooden paneling directs sound toward every seat and creates a close connection between musicians and listeners.
The venue offers wheelchair spaces and is accessible via elevators, making it easy for visitors with limited mobility to attend. Guests can spend time in the reading cafe or ask questions at the information desk before performances begin.
International acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota, known for the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, designed the sound engineering using black-stained softwood panels throughout the space. This paneling from local timber creates warm acoustics and reflects a connection to the Munich surroundings.
