Flaucher, Recreation area in Sendling, Munich, Germany
The Flaucher is a recreation area south of Munich that extends along the Isar River with gravel banks, meadows, and natural walking paths through a protected landscape. Dense vegetation gives the area a woodland character.
The area took its name from Johann Flaucher, who established an inn called 'Zum Flaucher' in 1870 within a converted forester's lodge. This connection to the past shaped the character of the place.
On warm days, the gravel banks become social gathering points where people set up picnic spots and spend time by the water. The area has developed into a favorite destination for friends and families who enjoy the open riverside setting.
The area is easily reached by subway and located near Hellabrunn Zoo, with several paths connecting to central Munich. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as many trails are unpaved.
During winter months, the area transforms into a cross-country skiing destination with a trail spanning several kilometers. Summer brings opportunities for river swimming and wildlife watching.
