Villa Knagge, Heritage building in Wildeshausen, Germany.

Villa Knagge is a residential building in Wildeshausen featuring Art Nouveau design elements throughout its facade. The wooden entrance portico displays decorative frieze work, and the gable includes a distinctive mosaic component.

The building was constructed in 1852 for merchant Johannes Knagge following his return from Java. Major updates came in 1906 when heating systems and modern improvements were installed throughout the structure.

The villa's name comes from the Knagge family, who had it built. Johannes Knagge had made his fortune as a merchant on Java between 1838 and 1851, and the wooden portico added in 1878 shows influences from Javanese planter houses and Swiss farmhouses, as well as the veranda of the Marine Hotel in Batavia where he is thought to have stayed.

Villa Knagge stands at Ahlhorner Straße 10 in Wildeshausen. Since 2021 it has belonged to a partnership of lawyers and notaries who restored it and run their office there; the extensive works ended in September 2025. It is a protected monument and not open to the public, so the building is best viewed from the street.

The gable triangle holds a hand-crafted glass mosaic made in Munich showing praying angels surrounding a Sacred Heart. The mosaic artist Simon Theodor Rauecker created this specific artwork exclusively for this residence.
