Neumühlsee, Still waters in Waldenburg, Germany
Neumühlsee is a freshwater lake in Waldenburg with a surface area of roughly 5 hectares and a maximum depth of about 3 meters. Water flows from two streams and is held back by an earth dam that creates the lake.
Monks from the nearby Goldbach monastery created this lake in medieval times for fish farming to supply their community. This initial purpose shaped the lake into what it remains today, serving multiple uses.
The southeastern shore functions as a swimming area where visitors and locals spend time during warm months for recreation. People gather here for a straightforward place to swim and relax in nature.
The lake is reached via the K 2363 district road, which crosses over the dam and serves as the main link to public transportation. The shoreline is easy to reach and has several spots where you can sit or enter the water.
Two streams feed this lake: the Biberfluss and the Goldbach, which together drain a watershed of roughly 5 square kilometers. This dual water supply means the lake stays filled and active despite its modest size.
