Steinbruch Asbeck

Steinbruch Asbeck is a limestone quarry in Balve with steep walls of exposed rock layers from different time periods. The site displays varied sediment formations with contrasting mineral compositions that become visible in the exposed stone faces.

Extraction began in the mid-20th century under Rheinkalk ownership. The quarry became a major supplier for the construction industry across the region.

An observation platform north of Eisborn provides good views of quarry operations. Walking paths loop around the site at different lengths for varied exploration options.

Two lakes have formed within the quarry grounds and display a striking blue color from mineral content. This vivid water tone creates a dramatic contrast against the reddish stone walls.
