Schloss Rodberg

Schloss Rodberg is a four-story building with multiple wings set within a forested area along the Ilm River, featuring traditional German architecture. The structure was designed to serve medical purposes and sits surrounded by trees.

The building was constructed in 1911 as Schloss Gutenberg and served as a treatment facility for lung disease. It operated open-air sleeping huts in the forest where patients received air therapy.

The building reflects a time when doctors started to recognize the healing power of nature and fresh air in medical care. These ideas shaped early 20th-century medicine and drew patients seeking such treatments.

The property is located at Tannrodaer Straße 34 and is visible from outside, though it has stood empty since 2000. The surrounding forest offers pathways for exploring the area.

Between 1887 and 1897, fourteen open-air sleeping huts were built in the forest to expose patients to fresh air. This hands-on application of nature therapy was an innovative medical concept of its time.
