Mariä Himmelfahrt, Roman Catholic church in Otterstadt, Germany
Mariä Himmelfahrt is a neo-Gothic church in Otterstadt with a distinctive 50-meter tower made of red sandstone. Inside, a central nave and two side aisles are separated by clustered pillars that support the structure.
Construction began in 1889 following architect Franz Schöberl's designs, replacing an older building from 1750. The church was consecrated in 1891 and has shaped the town's character since then.
The church is named for the Assumption of Mary, a significant date in the Catholic calendar. On August 15, local worshippers gather here to mark this important religious observance.
The church stands on Ringstrasse 75 and is easy to reach when walking through town. The interior can feel cool, so bring a light jacket when visiting.
The main altar was crafted by Gottfried Renn and depicts the coronation of Mary with fine detail work. The building preserves extensive liturgical vestments from 1891 that are rarely found in other regional churches.
