Ringerbrunnen

Ringerbrunnen displays two large bronze wrestlers locked in combat at the intersection of Schuhstrasse and Sack streets in the city center. The muscular figures represent the mythological struggle between Hercules and Antaeus with dramatic physical intensity.

German sculptor Jürgen Weber created this bronze sculpture in 1975 as a public art installation in Brunswick. The work emerged from the artist's personal response to criticism and his exploration of classical mythology.

The inscriptions carved into the bronze figures represent a dialogue between the artist and those who questioned his work, making artistic debate a physical part of the sculpture.

The fountain sits at a central intersection and is easily walkable from most attractions around the city center. The public square is open to visitors at all times, making it a handy reference point when navigating the downtown area.
