Shai Hills Resource Reserve, Nature reserve in Shai Osudoku District, Ghana
The Shai Hills Resource Reserve extends across 51 square kilometers of grassy plains and dry forests, containing numerous plant species and diverse wildlife populations.
The British colonial forces displaced the Shai people from this area in 1892, leaving archaeological evidence and artifacts throughout the reserve's current boundaries.
The reserve includes the Manya Ancestral Home settlement and maintains a 1,200-meter trail featuring artifacts that demonstrate the former Shai inhabitants' way of life.
Located 57 kilometers from Accra along the Tema-Akosombo Highway, the reserve operates daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with guided tours for wildlife viewing.
Five zebras born within the reserve now contribute to zoological collections across Ghana, demonstrating successful breeding programs for non-native species.
